An international student at Waiouru Officer Cadet School was flown to hospital last night with serious head injuries after falling down a 60m bluff on a training exercise.
The man was walking in a dark area around 9pm and appeared to have lost his footing, Major Denise Mackay of the New Zealand Army said.
"On his way down the bluff it appears that he's knocked his head and rendered himself unconscious," he said.
The man, who is around 20-years-old, was flown by Square Trust Rescue Helicopter to Palmerston North Hospital.
"He is in a serious, but stable condition," Ms Mackay said.
The man will be named after his country's defence attache has been informed.
