A student is being hailed as a medical marvel after tests showed he could have five kidneys.
Doctors have told unsuspecting law student Brigham Nordstrom, 28, of Hamilton, that he could be the owner of three extra kidneys. He is due to undergo an MRI scan this week to confirm the anomaly.
Nordstrom said he had tests at Waikato Hospital to treat a minor kidney infection.
"They did a CT scan and it was a revelation. Instead of having one kidney on each side, it looks like I have two on one side and three on the other. It was the first time they had seen it."
He said he didn't know how rare the condition was and didn't expect to see himself in the Guinness Book of World Records.
