KEY POINTS:
An 18-year-old Dunedin student shocked police when she was caught driving at nearly eight times the legal alcohol limit.
Sergeant Dave Scott said the young woman had been picked up by a mobile police patrol and had registered 1124 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath.
As she was under 20 years of age, her legal limit was 150mcg but even for those over 20, the limit was only 400mcg.
She was immediately disqualified from driving for 28 days and will appear in court where she is likely to face further penalty.
The woman was caught leaving an inner city hotel and her vehicle was weaving over the road.
