A South Korean international student was yesterday convicted of injuring his schoolteacher after he admitted stabbing him in the classroom in March.
Tae Won Chung, 17, who had earlier pleaded guilty to stabbing Avondale College teacher Dave Warren, yesterday pleaded guilty at the Auckland District Court to a charge of injuring with intent.
Chung had originally faced a more serious count of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, but his lawyer, David Jones, QC, said he did not intend to cause grievous bodily harm and should face a less serious charge.
Mr Jones said the charge had been amended with the consent of the police.
Chung was remanded on bail for sentencing on July 30.
Mr Warren, 49, was stabbed in the back during a lesson. Avondale principal Brent Lewis said yesterday that Mr Warren had made a rapid recovery and was expected to be back at school possibly within the next two months.
