A student accused of murdering an Auckland woman in her inner-city apartment can now be named.
Peng Cheng Tian, 23, previously had name suppression but that has now lapsed.
Tian had a brief appearance this morning where the partner and friends of the victim, Yi Ren, were present.
A man yelled at Tian as he was lead back into custody. He was also escorted to the courtroom.
Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Breach said there were "emotions running" but the man made no threats.
"The judge handled it very well, she took a couple of moments and carried on with proceedings."
Ms Ren's family, who live in China, are believed to be on their way to New Zealand.
A post-mortem examination on Ms Ren was carried out on Friday and a preliminary report showed she had suffered stab wounds.
