Carterton firefighters cut free a 1-year-old boy who caught his leg in a supermarket trolley while on a shopping trip with his mum yesterday.
Carterton Deputy Fire Chief Brian Styles said there was initial confusion with the details of the call, which was taken about 8.20am.
"The call came through like it involved a motor vehicle in the supermarket. It didn't make sense at first."
He said firefighters arrived at the Carterton New World Supermarket to find a boy aged about 12 months, who had "pushed himself right through" a supermarket trolley his mother was pushing, and his leg was trapped.
A bar was cut and removed from the trolley and the young boy was freed within minutes, Mr Styles said.
