A strong quake has rocked the central North Island's west coast this morning.
GeoNet said the magnitude 4.8 quake struck 20km north of Opunake, southwest of New Plymouth, Taranaki at 9.05am.
More than 750 people have reported feeling the 18km deep quake on the GeoNet website.
There have been no reports of damage.
North Islanders have reported feeling the quake on Twitter this morning.
Jayde Meech of Hawera tweeted: "Rocking and rolling over breakfast in Hawera! #eqnz"
Sarah-Kate Thompson tweeted: "My heart really didn't need that this morning! #eqnz Woah!!"
This follows a severe quake off the south coast of the country which shook awake a handful of residents in the South Island late last night.
GeoNet said the 5.1-magnitude quake was "severe".
It hit about 11pm and had a depth of 13km, located 145km west of Tuatapere in Southland.
People in Christchurch and Franz Josef recorded feeling the quake as well as three people in Invercargill.
There have been no reports of damage.
