Four current Black Ferns are part of a 14-strong squad named by the Eketahuna club to represent Wairarapa-Bush at the Bay of Plenty interprovincial sevens women's rugby tournament at Mount Maunganui on January 2.
Rebecca Mahoney, Shakira Baker, Kathleen Wilton and Katarina Whata-Simpkins were members of the national 15-a-side team which recently played a three-test series in England.
Whata-Simpkins, a pacy three-quarter, actually plays her club rugby for Stokes Valley but has been "imported" into the Eketahuna line-up for this tourney and very probably the New Zealand sevens championships in Queenstown a couple of weeks later.
The full Eketahuna squad is: Rebecca Mahoney, Kathleen Wilton, Shakira Baker, Katarina Whata-Simpkins, Tatiana Tafatu, Shaan Waru, Jemma Lochhead, Sinead Namana, Laura Gavin, Rejieli Uluinayau, Jerusha Whiley, Claire Rowart, Lavinia Gould, Claire Richardson.
The women's competition will involve eight teams, two from Auckland, two from Shandong and one each from Bay of Plenty, Manawatu, Wairarapa-Bush and Taranaki. They have been divided into two pools with Wairarapa-Bush having to face Manawatu, Auckland A and Shandong B there.
