Strippers moving north

Strippers are heading north from quake-stricken Christchurch to set up shop in Auckland.

Strip chain Calendar Girls is expanding into Auckland, with about 100 strippers relocating.

The first club is due to open on June 24 in what was the Naval & Family Hotel on the corner of Pitt St and K Rd.

After the February earthquake forced the closure of both of its strip clubs, Calendar Girls general manager Jacqui Le Prou's search for Auckland premises gained urgency.

Le Prou said Auckland's strip scene was stuck in the 1980s or 90s.

"There's definitely not a five-star strip club in Auckland at all. Bringing something that's definitely lacking in Auckland to the city is very, very exciting."
