Striking Oceania workers have cancelled their plans for further industrial action out of concern for the standard of care being provided to the elderly.
Strike action was planned for April 11th and 12th
The Service and Food Workers Union and the New Zealand Nurses Organisation say both unions had given Oceania plenty of warning to make appropriate arrangements - but claim Oceania's failed to care for its residents.
Spokesperson Alastair Duncan says they've had reports of elderly residents not being fed, showered or cared for, and of students being asked to do the work of professionals.
He says while members have endorsed further industrial action, it'll be put on hold until they can be sure Oceania residents are properly supported.
