The yacht on which one sailor was killed and another lost at sea has arrived back in New Zealand under tow.
The multi-million dollar yacht, Platino, was towed into Whangarei by the tug boat Sea Pelican just after 9am today.
Auckland boat builder Nick Saull was killed when he was struck by the yacht's rigging, and fellow Aucklander Stephen Forno, was washed overboard after the vessel encountered rough conditions on Monday last week. His body has not been found.
Three others on the Fiji-bound yacht, which was more than 500km north of New Zealand when the tragedy occurred, were plucked from the yacht by a container ship, but Mr Saull's body remained on board.
Auckland City District police operations manager Inspector Vaughn Graham said the tug and yacht were met at Northport, Marsden Pt, by a small group of family members and police.
Police were investigating the circumstances of Mr Saull's death on behalf of the coroner, Mr Graham said.
