Neighbours of Wellington's Miramar Golf Club are fed up with wayward golf balls and broken windows.
The danger was highlighted recently when resident Micheal Matenga was hit on the head by a golf ball while outside. He was taken to hospital and kept in overnight. Doctors said he was lucky the ball did not smash his skull.
"Basically, people are living in fear of stepping out of their houses," golf course neighbour Ralph Martin said. The windscreen on Mr Martin's car was broken by a golf ball. He said screens to stop the balls were ineffective and management had been "stand-offish" when approached.
About 20 residents met on Sunday night to discuss the situation.
Golf club chairman Alastair Roger said the club had spent tens of thousands of dollars putting up screens that stopped 90 per cent of wayward balls and had paid to repair broken windows.
