Stranded trampers have been rescued from a Marlborough national park today, after they became trapped by rising river levels.
The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter recovered the three women from Thor Hut in the Kahurangi National Park.
The women, one from Punakaiki and two from Tauranga, had been tramping from Mt Arthur towards Little Wanganui via the Karamea River valley when they became stranded on Sunday.
After attempting to retrace their route, the trio had taken shelter at Thor Hut overnight before reassessing their situation the following day.
With river levels still rising, the women decided to call for help and activated their emergency locator beacon.
