Two helicopter pilots stranded in the Kaweka Ranges by engine problems were rescued by the Taupo-based Lion Foundation rescue helicopter service last night.
A Rescue Coordination Centre spokesman said the pilots, from Poronui, near Taupo, had landed safely at the Tussock Hut in the Kaweka Ranges.
They activated their emergency beacon after engine problems with their helicopter prevented them taking off.
They were picked up just before 6pm, and flown to their base at Poronui.
