Storm aftermath: Wellington transport system almost back to normal

The final repairs to Wellington's transport system are taking place tomorrow after the damaging storm that hit the area on Thursday.

More work is required to fix sections of the Kapiti Line which was damaged by a slide in the wild weather on May 14, Tranz Metro spokeswoman Julie Buchanan said.

The line from Plimmerton to Waikanae would be out of service tomorrow between 9.30am and 3pm and services would be replaced by bus.

The Porirua Station reopened yesterday after repairs.

Ms Buchanan said the network damage was almost completely back to normal.

"It was really severely damaged," she said.

"Slips are always problematic on rail because the whole rail network is always more complex to clear than the likes of a road."
