WELLINGTON - It may still feel like winter, but if you're dreaming of a white Christmas just forget it!
Independent forecaster Ken Ring, who bases his predictions on the moon's orbits, is predicting sunny weather for most areas on Christmas Day, after a wet lead-up.
Exceptions to the fine weather are Dargaville and Gisborne -- if you know anyone who lives there give them an umbrella for Christmas.
Mr Ring said New Year's Eve was likely to be dry but rain was due to arrive in the first week of January, followed by stormy weather in the second week.
MetService forecaster Cameron Coutts told NZPA December 25 was too far away to predict conditions with much accuracy, but weather patterns indicated most North Islanders would enjoy a fine Christmas.
"There's some rain in the west of the South Island and showers spreading up the east of the South Island."
