A 996 model Porsche Carerra from a North Shore home on December 28 was recovered this afternoon by police in Whitianga.
Officers initially tried to stop the Porsche but it sped off and easily outpaced the police car.
A short time later police found the vehicle parked on the side of the road with the driver inside. He did not have time to drive off and was captured after a chase on foot.
Initial reports are that the Porsche is undamaged. A Mercedes Benz Coupe, stolen at the same time and recovered yesterday, was also undamaged. Both vehciles had been valued at close to $200,000 each.
A 29-year-old North Shore man has been arrested and will appear in the Hamilton District Court tomorrow in connection with the matter. Police say they will be seeking to have him remanded for a subsequent appearance in the North Shore District Court.
Inspector Les Paterson thanked the media and public for their co-operation leading to the return of the cars.
