Carterton firefighters were called out to extinguish a stolen car which had been set alight on Saturday night.
The car was found on the side of the road on Longbush Rd, near Millars Rd, at about 11pm.
One fire engine and the Carterton water tanker were sent to the scene, with a police dog handler assisting.
Carterton Fire Chief Wayne Robinson said the fire was well involved when the crew arrived. It took about 30 minutes to extinguish the blaze, by which time the car was totally destroyed.
It was believed the car had been stolen from Masterton earlier that evening.
