A sleeping household had a lucky escape when a stolen car nearly ploughed into their Nelson bedroom.
The Holden station wagon had been stolen from a nearby address just minutes before the 3am crash yesterday police say.
It became airborne before hitting some trees, narrowly missing a bedroom in which the homeowners were sleeping and coming to rest in the carport of the house.
The driver spoke to the homeowners briefly, said police, before jumping a fence and running away.
He is described as a European in his mid-20s, about 1.8 metres and of skinny build. He had shaggy brown collar-length hair and was wearing baggy jeans and a dark coloured top.
