A stolen car was abandoned in the new Christchurch City Council South Library early today after being used in a ram-raid.
Constable Michelle Johnstone from the Sydenham patrol base said two vehicles were backed through plate glass doors about 4.30am.
The thieves took two Hyundai plasma televisions.
The first vehicle through the doors was a lime green Ford with "Ultimate car wash cafe" written over it, which had been stolen earlier in the night from a Cashmere address.
This vehicle was left in the library.
The second vehicle was a late model silver Subaru station wagon.
"The two vehicles were backed in quickly behind each other," Ms Johnstone said.
"The silver Subaru may also have been in the area earlier in the morning. There was probably a lot of noise."
Anyone with any information or who saw either vehicle in the area is asked to contact police.
