KEY POINTS:
A car stolen from an Auckland home was found in a precarious position, standing vertically over a cliff with its nose down in mud yesterday morning.
Police believe the Toyota Corolla station wagon, which was stolen from Kohimarama some time during Wednesday night or Thursday morning, had been put in neutral and deliberately rolled over the embankment off Dunkirk Reserve in Tamaki.
When officers arrived about 9am yesterday, they found the car had been "hot-wired" with the ignition damaged and the car stereo stolen. Constable Matt Hooper of Mt Wellington said a small rear window had been smashed where the offenders gained entry.
Police have towed the car for forensic testing. Anyone with information can call (09) 526 7300.
