A party in Kaitaia, where someone was reportedly giving away 40-ounce bottles of spirits, caused drunken disorder and resulted in several arrests.
The spirits were believed to have been stolen in a burglary.
Several teenagers, some as young as 14, were taken into police custody for detoxification or delivered to their parents, while one 16-year-old was arrested on an outstanding warrant and charged with possession of a knife, another with disorderly behaviour and resisting police, a third with breaching the peace.
Police found drunken teenagers and young men in various parts of the town on Monday night, some of them deliberately stepping in front of vehicles and in one case punching them as they passed.
Meanwhile, an 18-year-old Kaitaia man has been charged with receiving, permitting premises to be used for an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act and possession of utensils.
