A new billboard protesting against Transpower's planned 400kV power line through the Waikato greets motorists at Union St in central Auckland.

The $40,000 billboard campaign, partly funded by donations, is a joint effort between Home-owners Against Line Trespassers (Halt) and New Era Energy, a group representing communities potentially affected.

Halt chairman Steve Hunt said the aim of the campaign was to generate interest among Aucklanders.
