KEY POINTS:
A supermarket is among 10 outlets caught selling alcohol to teenagers in an undercover police sting.
Auckland police sent two girls, aged 15 and 16, and two boys, aged 16 and 17, into 38 premises two weekends ago to try to buy alcohol. Ten sold them liquor, including the supermarket and another outlet caught in a previous sting.
All 10 licensees will appear before the Liquor Licensing Authority, which may suspend liquor licences and manager certificates.
"All in all it was a very disappointing result," said police liquor licensing unit head Sergeant Bryce Law.
"It's no wonder minors get their hands on alcohol when there are plenty of premises out there to supply them without asking for any form of identification, or even their age."
Figures obtained by the Herald on Sunday show 35 bar managers in the Auckland region had their certificates suspended in the past financial year for selling to minors, serving intoxicated customers or being convicted of drink-driving or assault.
In that same period, more than 50 premises lost on- or off-licences for similar reasons.
