KEY POINTS:
Police have still not made a decision on whether to charge MP Taito Phillip Field, it was confirmed today.
Police said they have received advice from Crown Law on the case and it is being considered.
But no decision has yet been made on whether Mr Field will face corruption and bribery charges.
A spokesman said the force was getting closer to a final decision.
Police have been investigating the former Labour and now independent MP over allegations he took money from constituents and gave immigration assistance to Asian overstayers in return for cheap labour.
Mr Field has denied the allegations.
The police investigation followed a nine-month inquiry by Noel Ingram QC which found no conflict of interest as a minister but raised questions about Mr Field's judgment and some of his evidence.
