A prisoner jailed for one of New Zealand's biggest methamphetamine busts will continue his fight for freedom in the Court of Appeal next month.
Alex Kwong Wong, also known as Gang Huang, was charged in 2004 with importing millions of dollars worth of methamphetamine in lava lamps. At his first trial, in 2006, he was convicted of five charges and his two co-accused were acquitted.
At a retrial in February and March, he was found guilty on two charges; importation and possession of methamphetamine. At his sentencing on May 1, Justice Judith Potter said the lava lamps contained more than 7.2kg of meth with an estimated street value of $8 million.
He is appealing against his latest conviction and sentence on eight grounds. The hearing is due to take place next month.
