Statistics New Zealand figuring Father's Day

This Sunday 135 New Zealand men will get the ultimate Father's Day present: a baby.

Statistics New Zealand has released a number of facts about the nation's dads to coincide with the annual celebration of fatherhood.

Men are leaving fatherhood until later - the father of a newborn baby is on average five years older than his own father was when he was born.

The average age of fathers of new babies is 33 years, but one in 100 babies has a father aged 50 or over.

Last year the fathers of 27 per cent of babies born in New Zealand were themselves born in another country, up from 21 per cent 10 years ago.
