Eketahuna's little radio station has a new home, and a good one at that.
News came through to the station's committee yesterday the Tararua District Council has approved the station's move into the War Memorial Building, commonly referred to in Eketahuna as the old Plunket Rooms, on a grassy knoll at the town's southern entrance.
The relocation became necessary because the premises the station had rented for 13 years further north in Main St was sold. It was feared the station might be forced to close, but a concerted effort by the station's committee, and people in the district who support the station, resulted in the finding of the new premises.
Tararua District Council member Warren Davidson, who is Eketahuna's council representative, informed the committee yesterday the council had agreed to lease the building at a rental of $100 a month which would include electricity costs, subject to a later review of how much power was being used.
Otherwise the agreement would be a standard lease agreement.
