KEY POINTS:
Police have appealed for witnesses after a Christchurch petrol station attendant was run down while trying to stop a car driver leaving without paying for petrol.
Detective Sonya Currie, of Papanui police, said the incident happened about 9.20pm last Friday at the Mobil Service Station on the Main North Road, Redwood.
The 18-year-old attendant attempted to stop a petrol drive-off but the car did not stop.
He was thrown over the bonnet then fell to the ground.
Ms Currie said he was lucky he didn't sustain serious injuries but still had abrasions, bruising and some injuries to his arm.
She was seeking any witnesses to the incident who may have seen or knew of a blue, early model sedan with a black body kit.
It was driven by male Caucasian, about 25-30 years old, about 175-180cm tall, clean shaven and wearing a black cap. There were three or four passengers in the car.
Anyone who knew anything about the incident should call Ms Currie on 03 374 1712.
