State Highway 3 by Mount Messenger in Taranaki closed by fertiliser spill

State Highway 3 in Taranaki was briefly closed early this afternoon following a fertiliser spill.

The spill between Mangahia and Mangaonga Rds, south of Tongapōrutu township, was reported to police at 11.55am.

The road at Mount Messenger closed around 12.40pm.

No detours were available, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) said.

SH3 reopened to one lane at about 2.10pm at the spill site while cleanup efforts continued.
