State Highway 1 reopens after Te Horo crash cleared

State Highway 1 north of Wellington has reopened after the clearing of a crash near Te Horo earlier this evening.

A car went off the road near Te Waka Rd around 5.50pm with the occupant trapped in their car, a police spokesperson said earlier.

The person was in a serious condition and a helicopter landing zone was being created so they could be flown to hospital.

A Fire and Emergency spokesman told the Herald around 6.30pm that two appliances were on the scene and were working to extricate the person from the vehicle.

Police said they would like to thank motorists in the area for their patience while waiting for the road to be cleared.
