Young pop-opera star Elizabeth Marvelly last night followed in the footsteps of her famous uncle, by winning the same music award Sir Howard Morrison won in 1970.
The King's College boarding student was due to take home the prestigious award at the Annual Variety Artists Club Awards dinner and show at Sorrento at One Tree Hill.
The 18-year-old pop-classical singer made headlines recently when she was asked to sing at the premiere of Nicole Kidman's latest blockbuster, The Golden Compass.
She will perform for the stars at a charity gala in Hong Kong in December.
The Rotorua teen said she is very excited about the performance, which has been organised by jeweller Michelle Ong.
Around 400 people will attend, and stars such as Glenn Close, Kate Winslett and Jennifer Garner have been invited.
Miss Marvelly recently signed a record deal with EMI London, following a tour of England with Dame Malvina Major and Sir Howard last year.
