The 21-year-old man charged with murdering Wellington man Tony Stanlake was today remanded in custody until late January.
Daniel Robert Moore of Naenae, Lower Hutt, made his third appearance in Wellington District Court today, on charges related to the death of Mr Stanlake, 62.
Mr Stanlake's body was found handless and mutilated at Owhiro Bay on Wellington's south coast on July 9.
Moore now faces one charge of murder by stabbing, one of burglary, and a charge of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
His lawyer Greg King said the charges were denied and would be defended.
Dressed in a navy suit and blue tie, Moore looked over to a group of about 12 supporters before being led from the courtroom.
Judge Jan Kelly remanded him in custody for a depositions hearing on January 23, which was expected to last three weeks.
