The stakes for Masterton's first business house and schools swimming relay in years have been raised with new trophies and substantial cash prizes donated by the event's sponsors.
Organised by the Masterton Swimming Club the relays are being held at the Genesis Recreation Centre on October 23 between 6pm and 8pm.
Masterton New World and locally-owned swimming pool company, Creative Pools, have put up new trophies for winning teams plus cash prizes of $160, $100 and $60 for the winners of the three cateogries & fast, medium and slow.
The winning adult ream will receive dinner for four courtesy of The Horseshoe and primary and secondary school sections are also included in the event.
Masterton Swimming Club president Robyn Prior said the support from the sponsors had allowed the club to offer much larger prizes than originally anticipated. And it had also given them the confidence to introduce brand new trophies and look to hold the relays on an annual basis.
Along with the cash prizes and trophies, plenty of spot prizes have also been donated, ranging from fresh fruit and water bottles to Martinborough wine and family passes to Wairarapa's newest family entertainment venue, Pohutukawa Playhouse.
Part of the "Join The Club" Wairarapa sports club promotion, and run by Masterton Swimming Club volunteers, the relays are open to workplace, club, school and family and friends teams of four. All events will be 4 by 25 metres with most teams getting at least two swims. One member from each team will also compete in the "Undie 50" sprint race.
Entry forms for the relays are obtainable through the events page of Active Wairarapa or by emailing the Masterton Swimming Club.
