Shock jock DJ and former NZ Idol judge Iain Stables has laughed off suggestions he has lost his job with radio station ZM FM following an "offensive" speech he gave at the New Zealand Radio Awards last Saturday night.
It is understood Stables, who won the Best Non-Breakfast Host award, will be reprimanded following an inflammatory speech aimed at CanWest.
But Stables, who was sued by former TV presenter April Ieremia in 2002 for claiming she was his wife, said there was no truth to the rumours.
"I've heard I've been suspended, I've been fired ... but the really boring truth of it all is I'm just on holiday," he said.
ZM operations manager Christian Boston said Stables was on leave and his job was not under scrutiny.
Stables said the awards were the "most PC, non-entertaining thing I've been at in ages" and his speech was taken in jest.
"They said it was highly offensive but I may as well have been at the Governor-General's tea party with Big Ears and Snoopy."
Sources at The Radio Network, which employs Stables, said he would be spoken to about his speech, describing it as "aggressive, off-colour" and containing "personal remarks".
"He is currently on leave," said a source, "and discussions will be held with Iain at the appropriate time."
