The man charged with the murder of Fitzgerald "Fitz" Risati was given interim name suppression when he appeared in court today.
Mr Risati, 24, died after he and his brother, were attacked by three men while waiting for a taxi at the Cannons Creek shopping centre, in Porirua East about 2.40am on Saturday.
His brother is in hospital recovering from a stab wound to his back.
The 24-year-old man who appeared in Porirua District Court this afternoon was charged with the murder of Mr Risati and attempted murder and assault of his brother Risati Risati junior, 21.
He was remanded in custody to December 21 and given name suppression until Wednesday morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Oxnam, head of the Porirua CIB, earlier said the 24-year-old's arrest was the result of extensive inquiries throughout the weekend, including assistance from members of the Porirua community.
"Inquiries are continuing to find a second offender that we believe was involved in this homicide," he said.
The crime scene examination in the Cannons Creek shopping centre has finished and the forensic analysis is under way.
Mr Oxnam said Mr Risati's family has been advised of progress in the investigation. "They're lovely people who are drawing strength and support from their family, faith and friends."
A funeral for Fitzgerald Risati is expected to be held on Friday.
