A man is in a serious but stable condition after being stabbed during a fight in Napier yesterday morning.
Police were called to the fight between two young men on the corner of Venables Avenue and Riverband Street in the suburb of Maraenui about 6.30am.
They arrested a 17-year-old but the stabbed man in his 20s had left the scene.
He was eventually traced to a local medical centre for treatment where he was being treated for stab wound to the chest.
He was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital for a suspected punctured lung, and was in a serious but stable condition, police said today.
The arrested man was due to appear in Napier District Court this morning charged with assault and possession of a offensive weapon.
Police said more charges were likely.
