A family dog reportedly stabbed during a burglary was actually injured while fighting another dog, police say.
A complaint was made that a family dog was stabbed twice during a burglary in the Linwood area of Christchurch on March 12.
Police said officers investigating found that no burglary took place and the dog was not stabbed.
However two dogs were taken to a vet, who confirmed the injuries were consistent with fighting.
The images posted on social media to appeal for donations for the dog's treatment were posted in good faith by an independent party, police said.
