St Matthew's Collegiate made no race of the North Island secondary schools division two girl's softball championships at Rotorua, taking away the spoils with an unbeaten record.
Up against Rosehill College from Counties-Manukau, New Plymouth Girls High from Taranaki and Rotorua Lakes High School, St Matthew's played each of them twice and it was Rosehill College who offered the sternest opposition. St Matthew's won their opening clash 6-5 and their second encounter 11-9.
Against New Plymouth Girls High they had wins by 14-5 and 10-1 and they beat Rotorua Lakes High 13-6 and 8-1.Pitcher Ngahuia Kapene received a mnost valuable player award..
The St Matthew's team prepared for the Rotorua tourney by travelling to Lower Hut each Wednesday to compete in the Hutt Valley competition, there being no competition for them to play in locally.
