St Matthews Collegiate's girls softball team who made a big hit in the just-concluded Hutt Valley secondary schoolgirls competition
Competing there because there is no regular inter-school play in the Wairarapa, St Matthew's made it all the way through to the grand final where they were to square off against Lower Hutt.
Unfortunately, however, that match had to be abandoned through inclement weather.
Two of the standout players in the St Matthew's line-up were Ngahuia Wilson and Dinah Luke.
They were chosen to represent Hutt Valley at both the national under-17 and under-15 championships and they also played in the New Zealand senior women's inter-club championships in Hamilton, Wilson for the Saints club, who finished eighth overall, and Luke for the Te Aroha club who were overall winners for the second consecutive year.
