St Matthew's Collegiate made every post a winner when they hosted the annual junior pentangular winter sports tournament.
Opposition in netball and hockey was provided by teams representing Samuel Marsden (Wellington), Woodford House (Havelock North), Iona College (Havelock North) and Nga Tawa (Marton) and St Matthew's won both trophies with an unbeaten record.
In the netball St Matthew's had comfortable wins over Woodford (31-16), Samuel Marsden (30-20) and Iona (31-16) before meeting a very competitive Nga Tawa unit in their final game.
This was a closely-contested match with St Matthew's winning 24-21.
Outstanding through the tourney for the home side were Evie Langlands and Maddison Baker, both of whom picked up a huge number of intercepts, but, in the end, it was their teamwork which was the decisive factor.
The dominance of St Matthew's in hockey is evidenced by statistics which show that in their four matches they scored a total of
30 goals while conceding only two.
They beat Samuel Marsden 4-1, Iona 11-1, Woodford 6-0 and Nga Tawa 9-0, handsome victories, especially considering the last two matches were played in the rain and cold.
