The old St Lukes Bridge over Auckland's Northwestern Motorway will be deconstructed and removed between now and mid-May, the New Zealand Transport Agency says.
A new St Lukes bridge was built immediately west of the old bridge, and traffic was switched to the new crossing at Easter.
NZTA highway manager Brett Gliddon said the disused bridge would be deconstructed in four sections using an electric saw with a silencing blade.
Pieces would be moved offsite by trucks.
The motorway will be closed overnight while the work takes place, and reopened at 5am every morning.
