Rugby sevens
Wairarapa-Bush did not manage a win at the national sevens rugby tournament in Queenstown over the weekend but considering their inexperience at this level of competition they could still feel encouraged by their efforts.
One of only two Heartland championship unions involved in the event - South Canterbury was the other - Wairarapa-Bush lost 49-0 to Otago, 40-5 to Hawke's Bay and 38-10 to North Harbour in pool play.
They then confronted Tasman in the bottom eight quarterfinals, losing 34-0, a result which put them into the Bowl semifinals where they lost to Counties-Manukau 36-19.
Taranaki took out the men's title with a 32-17 win over North Harbour in the final while the women's title was won by Manawatu which beat Waikato 36-17.
