A Hamilton man who hid in a toilet after a high pursuit police chase was flushed out by officers using pepper spray.
Constable Myles O'Donnell said police stopped the driver of a Nissan car on Ohaupo Rd, in south Hamilton, for a vehicle fault about 3am today.
"The driver gave false details but we were able to establish he was a 41-year-old disqualified driver who is due in court today," Mr O'Donnell said.
Before he could be taken into custody the driver sped off and there was a pursuit.
Mr O'Donnell said the driver's speed reached 120km/h on Beatty St before the driver locked his car's brakes and slid through the intersection on to Normandy Ave.
Eventually police lost the man on Pine Ave, a short distance away.
"Using a bit of local knowledge we tracked the car to a Lilac St house at which time the offender fled into the toilet and locked the door," Mr O'Donnell said.
"He was told he was being arrested, eventually the toilet window was broken to allow officers access to the offender who was subdued and arrested with the assistance of pepper spray."
As well as existing charges the man will now be facing charges of failing to stop, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and resisting police when he appears in Hamilton District Court today.
