Aucklanders can expect more rain today, including from a thunderstorm likely south of the city.
A large band of rain hovering over Auckland caused yesterday afternoon's sudden downpour.
The wet weather would continue throughout today, MetService weather forecaster Chris Noble said.
"It'll be unsettled weather," he said.
"The forecast is of showers throughout the day - one or two heavy downpours - and there might be a thunderstorm to the south of the city."
Winds in Auckland would be light, Mr Noble said, and temperatures were expected to range from the low to mid 20s.
Rain is also expected in Auckland tomorrow, as well as in most of the North Island from Taupo northwards.
Saturday will bring an improvement, with rain expected to clear throughout the day.
Sunday being the best day of the week for Aucklanders, with a forecast of fine weather.
Mr Noble said weather in Waikato and in areas surrounding the region was likely to be similar to that in Auckland, with lots of rain and a possible thunderstorm.
The chance of thunderstorms in Auckland and Waikato was moderate, he said, "but it is in the forecast".
Temperatures in the mid teens are predicted for for Wellington today, with light rain expected to clear throughout the day.
Mr Noble said: "It'll be a lot more settled in the South Island - fine in the west and a little bit of cloud in the eastern coast, but overall fine."
Splish, splash we'll be taking another bath
