The Listener has been named the country's best magazine.
The 65-year-old New Zealand institution beat seven other category winners to the supreme title at the Magazine Publishers' Association awards dinner in Auckland last night.
Owned by APN National Publishing, which also publishes the Herald, the Listener was described by judges as "a spirited sexagenarian with a new look and plenty of good ideas". It won the current affairs category from Metro and North & South and the supreme title from magazines including Cuisine, NetGuide and the Listener's sister title, the NZ Woman's Weekly, which had been declared best mass-market magazine.
Woman's Weekly editor Nicky Pellegrino won the award for best editor of mass-market titles.
