A 15-year-old from Tauranga was taken to hospital with spinal injuries after jumping on to rocks at Mt Maunganui yesterday.
St John team manager Ken Hansen said the youth was at a spot known as the blowhole, popular with people jumping into the sea.
Hansen said Mt Maunganui surf lifesavers had rescued other people with spinal injuries from the same spot.
