KEY POINTS:
Around two dozen firefighters are involved in cleaning up a chemical spill in the Lower Hutt suburb of Seaview.
Two hundred litres of hydrochloric acid was spilt when a container apparently fell off the back of a truck inside an industrial building in Toop Street.
The building has been evacuated and fire officers with breathing apparatus are trying to establish the best way to go about the clean-up.
There are safety concerns about contact with the acid and vapours spreading from it.
Regional council officials are also in attendance, fearing the acid could pollute near-by waterways.
