Auckland's Western Springs Speedway is to appeal against an Environment Court ruling limiting noise at the inner city venue.
The court last year upheld a ruling forcing race promoters to comply with an 85 decibel noise limit or face prosecution.
General manager of Springs Promotions Dave Stewart said today the appeal would be filed in the High Court next week.
"Since we've had these very accurate readings we've realised its very difficult to stay under 85 (decibels) and impossible in the big races with all the fast guys in them where you have a lot of cars on the track," he told National Radio.
"I think that this wasn't as obvious in the past because nobody had spent the money to do the research."
A decision would be made today whether the opening of the Midget World Series this weekend could be held at the track.
