A motorist was arrested yesterday evening after speeding through Auckland streets at twice the limit, forcing police to abandon a pursuit.
Senior Sergeant Donovan Clarke said police received a call at 6.45pm from Remuera about the driver.
The motorist sped down busy arterial streets, including Great South Rd, sometimes at more than 100 km/h. "He was going very fast and going straight through red lights and at that time we decided to abandon the pursuit," Mr Clarke said.
The motorist crashed at the Ellerslie-Panmure roundabout and ran away, but police caught and arrested him.
